Restaurantdata.com continuously identifies, verifies, and delivers new and pre-opening restaurant signals to operators, suppliers, and distributors across the U.S. on a weekly basis. Below is a comparison of weekly opening counts across the country, contrasting the final 22 weeks of 2024 with the first 22 weeks of 2025. Once the source activity is researched and qualified, the resulting location-anchored records are organized within Atlas by RestaurantData, where a restaurant location can be connected to its concept, operating company, ownership relationships, contacts, and development history.
Total Raw: Complete count of filing-source observations before de-duplication and qualification. | Total Net: Restaurant records retained after research and confirmation as pre-opening or recently opened, generally identified no later than two to four months after the source filing. How to Interpret the Weekly Counts
The source columns measure observed filing activity, not separate completed restaurant openings. One proposed location can appear in more than one public source, while some filings do not ultimately qualify as restaurant-development records. RestaurantData therefore treats the raw counts as research inputs and the net counts as the qualified output.
- DBAs: doing-business-as and fictitious-name filings that may identify an operator or customer-facing restaurant name.
- Incorporations and LLCs: entity-formation records that can provide an early signal of a restaurant project or operating company.
- Alcohol and permits: licensing, construction, build-out, and related filings connected to a proposed or changing restaurant location.
- Total Raw: source observations collected before duplicate removal, source reconciliation, classification, and verification.
- Total Net: location-based restaurant records remaining after the research process; this is not a claim that every restaurant opened during the listed week.

Comparison note: These are two consecutive 22-week periods rather than the same calendar weeks in two different years. The comparison describes directional movement in the published weekly series and should not be interpreted as a seasonally matched year-over-year calculation. What the Trend Charts Show
Total Raw filings were consistently higher in H2 2024 (averaging 1,200–1,600 per week) compared to H1 2025, which has trended in the 900–1,500 range. The highest single week in the comparison period was the week of 10/24/2024 at 1,629 raw filings.
Total Net Issued tells a similar story. H2 2024 net counts were frequently in the 500–608 range during the peak September–October period, while H1 2025 largely settled in the 390–516 range. New openings steadied after indications of a slight downward trend across multiple source categories, including alcohol license applications, DBA and fictitious-name filings, building permits, state incorporations, and LLC registrations.
The seasonal dip visible in late December and early January is consistent across both years and reflects the normal reduction in filing activity during the holiday period.
