A public directory for restaurant company research

REI profiles help readers examine company structure, concept portfolios, headquarters, geographic reach and associated restaurant-location totals. Location and sales figures are identified as estimates where applicable. Public snapshot figures cover the United States and Canada.

For manufacturers, distributors, technology providers, investors and advisers, these profiles provide a starting point for understanding the organizations associated with restaurant systems. Research can begin with a familiar restaurant name and extend to the operating group, franchise organization or parent company connected to it.

Understanding restaurant brands and company relationships

A restaurant brand, its franchisor and a franchise operator can represent different organizations. A parent company may connect several brands, while a multi-concept group may operate restaurants under a collection of names. The REI makes those distinctions visible within its company research.

The Restaurant Data Dictionary explains the entity, ownership and operating terms used across the research, including restaurant brands, franchise organizations, parent companies and multi-concept operators. These definitions help readers interpret what each profile represents and compare companies within the appropriate scope.

Related parent and brand profiles may include some of the same restaurant locations. Their displayed totals should be read within the company hierarchy before being combined into a broader market total.

Continuing review after the 500-company milestone

RestaurantData will maintain the index around 500 companies as organizations enter, leave or change. The active total may move above or below that baseline over time. The completed baseline remains the reference point for continuing maintenance.

The release follows the index’s staged publication, including the earlier 400-company milestone. The 500-company release completes the planned buildout.

RestaurantData develops company profiles using company disclosures, franchise documentation, public filings, company websites, location research and other source material, with in-house review. Profiles are revised as researchers verify changes involving ownership, concepts, restaurant totals and operating relationships.

A profile update may change information about an existing company without changing the directory’s membership. Mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and changes in research scope can also lead to additions or removals.

Companies can apply for inclusion, submit corrections or request removal. Submissions are considered through RestaurantData’s verification and review process.
