Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators

 

Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

 

Charlotte, NC-based AMERICAN BURGER COMPANY has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  This fast casual concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Locations serve beer and wine and seat about 100.  Online ordering is available.  Trading areas are NC, NY and SC.

Atlanta, GA-based SCHLOTZSKY\’S DELI (founded 1971) has increased by 3 units, from 350 to 353 (1% growth) and entered into NJ.  This fast casual sandwich concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Units serve beer and wine and average seating is for around 30.  Catering and online ordering options are available.  All stores are franchised and trade in AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI and WV.  Schlotzsky’s is a subsidiary of Focus Brands.

Madison, GA-based AMICI ITALIAN CAFE (founded 1993) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $8-$20+, serving beer and wine.  Seating is for about 70.  Catering is available.  About half the units are franchised.  All are located in GA.

REDSTONE AMERICAN GRILL based in Eden Prairie, MN (founded 1999) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth) and expanded into MD.  These are upscale restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Per person check average is around $15-$50+.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Locations are in IL, MD, MN, NJ and PA.

SEASONS OF JAPAN based in Savannah, GA (founded 1999) has increased by 1 unit, from 9 to 10 (11% growth).  These are fast casual Japanese restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-12+.  Locations are in CA, FL, GA, NC and SC.

PREGO of Houston, TX (founded 1983) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth) adding a new concept called Caracol.  Other company concepts are Backstreet Café (1), Hugo\’s (1), Prego (1) and Trevisio (1). These concepts tend to be upscale with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$50+.  Catering and patio seating are available.  All locations are in TX.

Dallas, TX-based DICKEY\’S BBQ PIT (founded 1941) has increased by 71 units, from 419 to 490 (17% growth) and entered into KY and NM.  This fast casual BBQ concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person price range.  Units have average seating for 150.  Most locations serve beer and wine (full bar is available at select locations).  The restaurants offer catering and online ordering options.  All locations are franchised and trade in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV and WY.  We last featured this concept on 12/10/13 (13% growth).

THUNDERCLOUD SUBS based in Austin, TX (founded 1975) has increased by 10 units, from 22 to 32 (45% growth).  These are quick serve sandwich shops with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Catering is available.  All locations are in TX.  We reported on this concept on 2/12/13 (4% growth).

Prairie Du Sac, WI-based CULVER\’S FROZEN CUSTARD & BUTTERBURGERS (founded 1984) has increased by 25 units, from 503 to 528 (5% growth).  The restaurants are fast casual, specializing in burgers and frozen custard.  Per person check average is $4-$12+, with seating for about 90.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Locations are franchised and trade in AZ, CO, FL, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, OH, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WI and WY.  We last wrote about this concept on 4/22/14 (9% growth).
