The following graph shows restaurant openings over the last five years. We have only included restaurants that have waitstaff. This includes both fine dining as well as family/casual, less expensive dining. Both independent operators and multi unit chain locations are included.
Our data shows a very consistent rate of growth in the casual/upscale dining segment over the last 5 years. Sit-down service accounts for just slightly more than 50% of the overall total of restaurant openings. The following graph shows the overall number restaurant opening totals, waiter service totals and total percentages.
