In recent months there are an average of 500-650 new openings per week in the U.S.

The analysis provides insights into trends and patterns across various metrics related to legal filings and new restaurant activity over 4.5 years since the pandemic shutdown began in March, 2020:

  1. Trend Observations:
    • DBA and Incs/LLCs: Both “DBA” and “Incs & LLCs” filings exhibit fluctuating trends, with “Incs & LLCs” generally showing higher variability.
    • Combined Alcohol Permits vs *Total Raw: Alcohol permits remain steady over time, while “Total Raw” shows larger fluctuations.
    • Net New Restaurant Openings: This metric has steady growth with periodic peaks.
  2. Summary Statistics Per Week:
    • DBA Filings:  Average of ~452, with a range from 113 to 1108, showing considerable variability.
    • Incs/LLCs Filings: Average of ~439, with a range from 84 to 1152.
    • Combined Alcohol Permits: Average of ~178, range from 57 to 400.
    • Total Raw: Average of ~1067, with a wide range from 308 to 2166.
    • Net New Restaurant Openings: Average of ~531, ranging from 265 to 870, with moderate variability.

 *Total Raw represents the pre-vetted aggregate count of legal filings, encompassing DBAs, LLCs, state incorporations, alcohol and building permit filings.
