Roark Capital Group began in 2001 under founder Neal Aronson. Its first restaurant investment was Carvel. Roark later formed Focus Brands, now GoTo Foods, and then formed Inspire Brands in 2018. It reached an agreement to acquire Subway in 2023. Roark Capital is headquartered at 1180 Peachtree Street NE in Atlanta, Georgia, and manages about $41 billion in assets. It is a private equity investment firm and does not operate restaurant locations directly. Roark is an ultimate parent. Inspire Brands, GoTo Foods and CKE Restaurants sit beneath Roark as parent companies themselves, with restaurant concepts beneath each of them. Subway and other restaurant companies also sit within the portfolio. The portfolio has locations in all 50 states and Canada, covering quick-serve, fast-casual and full-service restaurants. Investment firms, financial sponsors, and other ownership partners are generally not included unless they also play a meaningful operating role; an otherwise qualifying entity may also be omitted when sufficient reliable information is unavailable.
