Summary

Pizza Factory is an Oakhurst, California fast casual pizza franchisor headquartered at 49430 Road 426. Danny and Carol Wheeler started the business in 1979 as Danny's Red Devil Pizza on Highway 41 near Yosemite National Park, and regular customers Ron and Joyce Willey soon opened a second restaurant in nearby Mariposa under the Pizza Factory name. As friends asked to open their own restaurants, the two couples began franchising in 1985 and grew the brand through small towns and suburban communities. Longtime Murrieta franchisees Mary Jane Riva and her husband Bob later bought the company, with Mary Jane Riva becoming president and CEO and expanding the system while adding technology, community programs and an anti-bullying campaign. The company operates as franchisor with nearly all restaurants franchised to local owner-operators, offering full, mid-size and express formats. Its footprint runs throughout the West, anchored by deep roots in the small towns of its home Sierra foothills and Central Valley region. Restaurants are fast casual and serve lunch and dinner with hand-tossed pizzas, house-grated mozzarella, slow-cooked sauce, pastas and sandwiches. Typical units seat about 60 guests in roughly 1,750 square feet, reflecting family-friendly neighborhood pizzerias.

The Restaurant Enterprise Index focuses primarily on companies with a substantial role in restaurant operations. Investment firms, financial sponsors, and other ownership partners are generally not included unless they also play a meaningful operating role; an otherwise qualifying entity may also be omitted when sufficient reliable information is unavailable.

The ownership hierarchy follows the entity structure from the bottom up, showing the profiled entity in relation to its parent organizations, including its ultimate parent. When the entity owns or operates concepts beneath it, up to three are displayed.

Verify Our Data Methodology

  • Foundation: Active state business registries form the primary backbone of every record.
  • Sources: Publicly available filings throughout, including public Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs).
