Jersey Mike’s began in 1956 as Mike’s Giant Submarine Shop, a single location in the Point Pleasant, New Jersey, boardwalk area. Peter Cancro started working there at 14 and purchased the business in 1975 while still a 17-year-old high school student. He later changed the name to Jersey Mike’s Subs and developed its franchise system. Blackstone subsequently agreed to acquire a majority interest in a transaction that valued the company at $8 billion (NYSE: JMKE).
